<p>Nessuno aveva mai esplorato il <strong>fondo</strong> del <strong>Great Blue Hole</strong>, a largo del <strong>Belize</strong>. Ha compiuto l&#8217;impresa <strong>Richard Branson</strong>, a bordo di un <strong>sottomarino</strong> che l&#8217;ha accompagnato alla <strong>scoperta</strong> di questa meraviglia naturale. Il Great Blue Hole è una <strong>dolina marina</strong> di circa 100 metri di profondità, che si affaccia sul Mar dei Caraibi. Si tratta di un buco, una cavità larga oltre 300 metri e profonda 123 formatasi come grotta calcarea durante l&#8217;ultima era glaciale. Spettacolare alla vista per la sua forma quasi perfettamente circolare, è anche uno dei siti preferiti da chi pratica immersioni subacquee. Oggi Richard Branson, imprenditore britannico a capo della Virgin, ha compiuto una missione esplorativa per conoscerne il fondale. Ad accompagnarlo c&#8217;era <strong>Fabien Cousteau</strong>, un conservazionista che difende gli oceani; i due, in sottomarino, hanno raggiunto il fondo del Great Blue Hole in diretta su Discovery Channel. La spedizione si inserisce nel progetto &#8220;Ocean Unite&#8221;, che intende salvaguardare almeno il 30% degli oceani del pianeta entro il 2030.</p>

<p>Il <strong>fondo</strong> del <strong>Great Blue Hole</strong>, a largo del <strong>Belize</strong>, grazie al viaggio in<strong> sottomarino</strong> di <strong>Richard Branson</strong>, svela i suoi <strong>misteri</strong> per la prima volta. Lo stesso imprenditore ha raccontato cosa si nasconde sui fondali di questa profonda dolina, raggiungibili attraversando un muro di stalattiti. Lì giù si trovano <strong>grotte</strong> che, un tempo, facevano parte della terraferma, un dato affascinante ma preoccupante, che testimonia il repentino innalzamento dei livelli oceanici. Non ci sono forme di vita sul fondo del Great Blue Hole, per la profondità e la mancanza di ossigeno. Gli esploratori, invece, hanno trovato i soliti ospiti indesiderati: <strong>bottiglie di plastica</strong>. I rifiuti contaminano anche un luogo così remoto, a dimostrazione dell&#8217;emergenza che vive il pianeta, e che non può più permettersi di ignorare.</p>
